The Terriers made it to the second round of post-season play this year after beating Jacksonville State in their first game. The Terriers finished Second in the SoCon, and they ought to compete again as the core of their offense returns. They are a dedicated option team that prides itself on defense. They signed 20 players and will draw one transfer.
They signed 11 defensive players, which was where their need lay the heaviest. They signed 5 linemen and 2 linebackers, which probably not see a lot of playing time this year. 3 freshmen secondary players will also join that class, but the two that will make the biggest noise and have the best chance to see time are Justin Blake a 5'10" safety, who just finished a year of junior college. He had 3 picks and one fumble return for a touch down. He has a chance to push some players for real playing time. And then Caleb Lucas is a 6 foot 205 corner back, who played for 2 years at Navy. Lucas has a chance to come in and start. He has the talent to do it, and we will see what happens when he Fall Practice starts.
Offensively the team adds 9 players. 5 of them are offensive linemen, which is important for an option team. Depth at this position is crucial, and the Terriers made sure they got it in this class. 3 more are running backs, but they are not going to see time as the Terriers are set at this position. Will Irwin is a Wide Receiver and perhaps he might get in some games, but that position is not that important in the Terrier offense except for down field blocking.
The Wofford Terriers are set for a few years, and they ought to compete again this year, but are not going to overtake Appy State. What works in their favor is that they get Appy at home.
